Incentive Chart - 20 Square: Gradient

Encourage and motivate students with colourful gradient incentive charts!

Each incentive chart features a label for the student's name, the task ("fill in a box when..."), and boxes to be filled-in upon completion of the task. Upon completion of the whole chart, students can win a prize!

These incentive charts are excellent for students who might be motivated already but need that extra little boost to encourage regular and consistent practice. 

Incentive chart tasks could be related to:

• Practice time (i.e. 10 minutes per box)
• Practicing specific pieces (i.e. 3 pieces per box)
• Completing pieces (i.e. 1 completed piece per box)
• Theory time (i.e. 15 minutes per box)
• Completing theory (i.e. 1 completed page per box)
• Completing a worksheet (i.e. 1 completed worksheet per box)

Get creative! For example, incentive chart tasks could be related to each time a student:

• Gets to the instrument without being asked
• Memorizes a piece of music
• Performs a piece of music for family or friends
• Creates a composition
• Teaches a sibling a new piece of music

The list could go on!

Why not work with your student to choose the tasks? Students base their choices on their perceived needs and their interests. This could be a great way work with students' intrinsic motivation! 

Prizes could include:

• A prize from the prize box
• A specific number of points (which add up to a larger prize)
• A piano lesson coupon (i.e. One Free Pass on Technique!)
• A fun outing or trip, agreed upon in advance with the parents
• A special lesson activity
